Art. 106 of the Italian Civil Code on the “Place of celebration” states that: "The marriage shall be performed publicly in the town hall before the Registrar of Marriages." Therefore, in order to have legal value, civil ceremonies in Italy must be performed in a municipal building. Most of these halls are located in beautiful and historical palazzos and are perfectly suited for such a romantic and important event. In Rome, for example, weddings can be celebrated either in the Town Hall or in "Vignola Mattei", which is a romantic and unique small medieval, brick wedding hall, with red carpets and chairs, situated in a quiet street closed to the traffic, surrounded by a lovely garden and near ancient Roman ruins.
