Seating
During the ceremony, the bride stands on the left and the groom on the right. This dates back to the days when men wore swords and the groom needed to be ready to draw his sword with his right hand, while holding his future bride with his left hand and fight off other men who challenged him to the rights of his bride.
Ring
“Without beginning, without end”: this is what the Egyptians used to say. The unbroken circle is an old symbol of eternity, continuity, wholeness and perfection. It is worn on the third finger because of an ancient belief that the finger contained the “vena amoris”, that is the vein of love which runs directly to the heart. Therefore, the wearing of the ring on that finger joins the couple’s hearts.
