Kiss
The kiss at the end of the ceremony symbolizes the exchange of spirit as each spouse breathes a part of his/her soul into the other.
Cake
In Roman times, wedding cakes, made of wheat or barley, were broken over the bride’s head to ensure fertility. Nowadays, the wedding cake cut by the bride and groom represents sharing their new life together. While cutting the cake, the groom should place his hand over the bride’s as a symbol of his desire to take care of his spouse. Feeding each other the cake means that the couple will nourish the relationship for the rest of their lives. The sweetness of the cake symbolizes the couple’s future happiness and its distribution among the guests represents the sharing of their happiness.
